Why Did I Write This Book?

I wanted to prove that I could write a novel.

I thought I could if I sat still long enough to write it all down.

I thought I had something important to say and I wanted to share it with others. Something about tolerance and acceptance and going beyond the first impressions we make of each other. In doing so, I wanted to adjust the way men and women think or at least make them pause for a moment. And I had to be entertaining but serious.

I wanted to say something useful when asked what I was doing recently retired, besides mumbling about reading, traveling, and going to happy hours. Something that would keep a conversation going and get a response like Wow, ‘that’s so interesting!’
